Yummy Spot

This little place in a little strip mall has been in operation close to a year. I have passed it many times going back and forth through Crenshaw Blvd. between Pacific Coast Hwy. and Lomita Blvd. (across Home Depot).  Sandi and I finally decided to check it out. What a cute place it is inside. There are a few tables and you are free to play cards or other table games.

We got there very early so there were no other customers.  Mitch, our server was patient with us as we asked him to describe most of the items on the menu; luckily there weren't too many things on the menu.

It was hard to decide what to order but we finally just went for it....Sesame Beef Taco which had fried garlic on top and the Carnitas Bolognese; braised pork, eggplant, tomato sauce & basil breadcrumbs.  Mitch brought out a basket of chips with salsa. The chips were outstanding. I think they were fried, that's probably why they were too good. I would have preferred a thicker salsa to go with it.

The Sesame Beef Tacos were delicious. We both loved the flavor. We would definitely order it again. The price for 2 tacos $5.50 and $7.50 for 3. You can mix it up and order 3 different ones. When I ordered the Carnitas Bolognese, I requested that the pasta be aldente and Mitch passed that on to the chef. It was served aldente. The carnitas was tender and flavorful but the sauce was a bit too sour/tart for both our taste. I think a bit of Mirin would solve that problem.

Dessert had to be their Beignets; served either with cinnamon or with chocolate. We had both of course; how else would we know which is better. Mitch mentioned that some people were disappointed when they got the beignets as it was not what they expected. These were more like Hushpuppies. Perhaps they shouldn't call them beignets. I too expected the Cafe Du Monde-type beignets; the very light and airy puffs with powdered sugar. These were good but it tasted more like churros.

Yummy Spot's address is 24416 Crenshaw Blvd. #1 in Torrance. We are definitely going back soon to try the other Tacos. For the price, you can't go wrong!
