Westside Tavern

Saw a double feature today at the Landmark Theater on Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles.  We had a break between the 2 movies.  We decided to try the Westside Tavern which is located at the Westside Pavillion where the theaters are.

We were there exactly at noon on a Sunday.  It was not busy at all, at least not yet.
They handed us the menu and it looked O.K. Nothing really jumped out to catch our attention. Cindy and I both were thinking of the cheeseburger and the grilled cheese. Perfect, we would just split both. The grilled cheese came with a tomato bisque soup and the burger came with a choice of fries with sea salt or potato chips. We opted for the fries.

We were ready to order.  We waited and waited as we saw servers lollygagging.  When I saw 4 servers just chatting by the cash register, I got up and approached them to interrupt as I politely told them we were ready to order. Our server didn't apologize, she just cheerfully said: "Oh! O.K."

The grilled cheese was nothing special. They could have used sharper cheese for more flavor. The cheeseburger was pretty good. The fries were very good as you could taste a lot of the sea salt. It was perfect dipped in the ketchup.

The food was a big improvement from the week before when we had lunch at at the Apple Pan. Things are beginning to look up.

  1. I'm sorry you didn't have a better experience. We've been there twice and loved it both times. We sat at the bar both times, though. Maybe that was the difference. I still dream about the Brussels Sprouts with Pancetta, and their cocktails were amazing. It's probably been about a year since we were there. I hope they haven't slipped.
