Kazamat Restaurant

Kazamat is located in the Kastel Fortress which is the historical epicenter of Banja Luka in Bosnia. It is very impressive and the ambiance could not have been better with the medieval tables and chairs and a view of the river.

We were so taken by the view that it almost didn't matter what we ordered.  One of the specialities was the Veal with potatoes and vegetables baked "under the bell".  Of course I had to order that to see what cooking under the bell was really like. I did like it a lot. It almost reminded me of lechon with the skin, though the skin was not crispy, it was still very good. The meat had some fat in it which gave the veal a lot of flavor.
Alma had the Trout with Swiss chard and potatoes (BlitvaKrompir).  Aimee had ordered some stuffed mushrooms which never made it to our end of the table. I'm sure it was delicious.
Ryan who was sitting next to me, thank God had ordered Polenta with bacon which was incredible!

Someone else had the Squid which also looked good. Ross had the Steak wrapped in bacon. There was another meat dish with mushrooms. Elliot had the Ram which was on the run so I never got to take a picture of it.

Everyone was too full to even look at the dessert menu.  A few of us had coffee and the rest wanted to just enjoy the fullness and satisfaction of having a sumptuous meal.

This was the last dinner for the 8-1/2 of us in Banja Luka.  We enjoyed our 3 days where we got to meet the locals. An employee at our hotel asked us how we liked Banja Luka and he said " We don't have much to give but we have big hearts". That pretty much sums it all.

I want to thank Maria and Ryan for their hospitality and their big hearts.
