Pasta Galore at Osteria Mozza

My mom and I were invited to Osteria Mozza at 6602 Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles last night. I have been there numerous times (see previous blogs: Osteria Mozza solittlethyme) and have always left the place happy. Last night was no exception except for the fact that we were all ecstatic.

The four of us decided to have the Pasta Tasting Menu.  Unfortunately it was too dark that only a couple of pictures turned out.  There were 5 kinds of pasta cooked with interesting combinations and sauces. They were all equally super delicious and all cooked to perfection (aldente).  If the quantity of dishes discourages you from ordering the tasting menu....don't despair as you only get small portions. This is a good introductory course on innovative creations of pasta.

The Squid Ink Chitarra Freddi with Dungeness crab, sea urchin & jalapeno was a cold pasta with a wonderful sauce. The Garganelli with ragu bolognese which I have had before did not disappoint. It had a lot of flavor; if you like bolognese, you will love this dish. The Agnolotti, burro e salvia was with butter (burro) and no... not saliva but sage. What a smooth tasting buttery delight! The Pici with oxtail ragu is not known in a lot of places in Italy. It is only known in certain regions and Osteria Mozza does it quite well. The last pasta was the Orecchiette with sausage and Swiss chard. That was also very good and a bit spicy. My mom could not handle the spice but before I could tell her I would have it, my brother Gary already scooped it off.

For dessert, they had two kinds: The Rosemary Olive Oil Gelato and rosemary brittle was nice and light and the Bombolini with huckleberry marmellata & lemon mascarpone were like little donut holes that were just the right amount.

If you can't book a flight to Italy to gorge yourself on pasta, book a reservation at Osteria Mozza. You'll be glad you did!
