Crepe and Cafe Fujiyama

Six months ago, we were unsuccessful in trying to have a meal at this tiny restaurant as they were full and the only tables available were outside; a cold January afternoon, so we decided to go elsewhere. Last night, we couldn't think of where we wanted to eat and I remembered this place so we ended up at this creperie and cafe. It does not seat very many; there are a couple of additional tables outside.

We were the only ones. We were impressed as they gave us baskets for our purses to put in which I thought was a nice touch. The utensils were wrapped in a bright blue napkin. They not only had chopsticks but they had forks, knives and (yes) spoons, after all, they serve rice.

There were some terminology that had to be translated. Our server told us that the Omu Rice w/ Hamburg Steak was popular.  We also ordered the Omu Rice Hire-Katsu. She suggested we have regular rice to go with the Hamburg since we were getting the omu rice with the pork. Since we split both orders, we had a taste of both. We learned that omu rice is rice usually combined with eggs or meats with ketchup! Before our entrees arrived, they served a small bowl of salad which could have been very good had it not been soaked with the dressing. I have to remember the next time I go, I will have them put the dressing on the side.

The hamburg steak tasted like a regular hamburger, not too exciting however, the Omu Rice Hire-Katsu was delicious. We loved the taste of it with the egg on top. The pork was crisp, tender and had the perfect sauce to go with the ketchup rice which had pieces of meat, bell peppers etc.  I know it sounds strange but you hardly taste the ketchup. We would definitely order this again.

We of course had to order a crepe since this is their specialty. We decided to split an order of the Chocolate Banana with Vanilla Ice Cream. That was wonderful with a side of whipped cream with corn flakes; again that sounds a little strange but it worked!

Crepe and Cafe Fujiyama's address is 24002 Vista Montana in Torrance. They are open everyday except Monday from 11:00 to 8:00 except on Saturday and Sunday when they open at 10:00 a.m.
