Biergarten

I was invited by Alma and Ryan to meet them on their last night in L.A. at Biergarten. They evidently were watching the Food Network on T.V. and they talked about the Drunk Chicken and a few things. I immediately accepted the invitation. I programed the address on my GPS in my car. I don't know what happened, but apparently Beverly (name of my GPS) was having a bad day. She kept wanting me to exit the freeway and make U turns while I was still on the freeway. I called my friend Sandi to ask her to google the address. She gave me directions. I finally exited the freeway where I was supposed to but somehow, I was still lost. I pulled over and programed the GPS on my phone. That looked promising till it stopped talking to me! The address of Biergarten is 206 N. Western Ave. in Los Angeles (in Koreatown). I got to N.Western and the 200 block ended and there was no restaurant. Finally, I just drove past the 200 block unto the 100 block and there it was! I never worked so hard to get to a restaurant.


Alma and Ryan just got there and had no problems. We sat and studied the menu. It was decided to just order a few things and share everything. The Tempura Fries looked interesting to me so we ordered that. Alma wanted to try the Sweet Potato Strings which had powdered sugar and cinnamon. The Bratwurst Corndog looked exciting (?) to Ryan. Everyone wanted to try the German Fried Rice which had kolbasa, sauerkraut, fried egg, sriracha and beer gravy. The Drunk Chicken which is beer infused had to be ordered. It also had a note that they needed 35 minutes to prepare this free range chicken.

The tempura fries arrived first followed by the German fried rice. The fries were good but not spectacular. The fried rice was very good with all the things in them. The sweet potato strings looked impressive but that was all. It was cut too thin and over fried that it was difficult to figure out any taste. I don't think this should be on their menu. The bratwurst was good with the sauerkraut. The star of the show was the drunken chicken. It was so crisp and just delicious. It went well with the fried rice. The very simple salad that came with it was just shredded cabbage with what tasted like Thousand Island dressing; that was a nice side kick.


The question is: Was this restaurant worth driving all over Koreatown? The answer is yes....at least for the Drunk Chicken and the German fried rice.
